I very rarely watch t.v., as we only have ours set up for watching movies. I have, however, seen the commercial a few times about high fructose corn syrup that said something about it "coming from corn and was therefore completely safe." I laughed in frustration as I watched it and knew that most viewers would believe this lie and continue to feed it to their families, feeling they could trust the media and government. It never ceases to amaze me that companies and organizations get away with making such claims. As Ty Bolllinger says in his book, Cancer: Step Outside the Box, "high fructose corn syrup is made from corn, but so is biodiesel." I don't believe anyone would say that biodiesel is safe to consume.
What is High Fructose Corn Syrup?
High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener used in thousands of products from ketchup, bread and sauces, to drinks, salad dressing and popsicles. Research has linked this ingredient to diabetes and obesity. I don't believe I need to convince anyone that obesity and diabetes is alarmingly on the rise in the U.S.
High fructose corn syrup is not found in nature; it is a man-made product resulting from changing corn into cornstarch and then into high fructose corn syrup. This is not a "natural" process, despite what is claimed. Toxic chemicals are used in this process of changing corn into high fructose corn syrup, one of which is glutaraldehyde. Glutaraldehye kills living cells, is an embalming chemical; causes drowsiness, dizziness and headaches; causes irritation to the lungs, throat nose and eyes. Can you develop asthma from consuming high fructose corn syrup? Yes!! Worse yet, this glutaraldehyde chemical is so toxic that it can burn a hole in your stomach!
Almost half of tested samples of high fructose corn syrup were found to contain mercury! As I'm sure you know, mercury is very toxic to our bodies and often stores itself in our soft tissues and bones, which can cause cancer, heart disease, auto-immune disorders, etc.
In my opinion, this is clearly not an ingredient that God created or meant for our bodies to consume. Be an ingredient reader and avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague!
