I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving filled with good times and memories. If you're like me, you ate way too much food! I always wonder why I eat so much in one day - none of us want stretched out tummies, do we? :) Thinking of eating so much also brings to mind some things that, when added to the diet, can help decrease your appetite and help you not eat so much. Sugary and high-carb foods only make our bodies want to eat more. A balanced diet is important, and those sugary and high-carb foods need to be limited.
Tips to decrease appetite:
~Eat foods with higher water content like fruits, vegetables.
~Chew well and eat slowly to give your body time to feel fuller. Eating fast makes your body not realize it's had enough to eat when it really has.
~Drink plenty of water. Water fills the stomach quickly and curbs
hunger. If you're a big soda drinker, it can be bad news for your
appetite and it tends to make you crave unhealthy foods while you drink
it. Soda and a candy bar, pizza or chips just go together, don't they?
These foods decrease appetite levels in the body:
*Red Pepper stimulates thirst, causing a person to consume more liquids and less food, which results in weight loss! It also raising metabolism. Bring on the red pepper! :)
contains fibers and slow burning
carbohydrates. The slow burning carbohydrates curb food cravings and
hunger for a longer period of time. Hence eating oatmeal can suppress the appetite.
*Salads - eat as many of these as you can! Green leafy vegetables suppress hunger; add any of the above fruits or veggies and you have a powerhouse of nutrition that will help you not crave those bad foods and greatly improve your health!
Herbs that decrease the appetite~
(These herbs can be added to food or made into a tea, tincture or taken as capsules.)
My favorite way to save money with herbs is to buy them in bulk. And my favorite herb store is the
*Licorice root can be consumed as a tea or tincture. It helps curb sugar cravings.
*Dandelion (Yes - this is the yellow flower that shows itself in early spring and grows everywhere. People think of this flower as a nuisance, but it is a very healthy useful herb! It curbs cravings and boosts metabolism.)
*Fennel enhances the flavor of Italian dishes, and is also well known as a natural appetite suppressant.
Instead of grabbing donuts or sugary cereal for breakfast, try starting your day with oatmeal or one of these other foods listed. Plan to include some of these foods to your diet on a regular basis instead of the foods that will make your body feel more hungry. Also, adding these herbs to your diet in some form can be the beginning of choosing a healthier lifestyle and shedding a few pounds too!
